Making Tomorrow Better
Globe Life Liberty National Division strives to help their local communities
“Globe Life strives to make tomorrow better in the places we live, work and serve. We recognize the incredible impact Cook Children’s has on the lives of so many children and families. The support they gave one of our very own Globe Life families created a full circle moment for us to give back and thank them in return.” – Steve DiChiaro, CEO of Globe Life Liberty National Division
At Cook Children’s, we promise to improve the wellbeing of every child in our care and our communities. Globe Life Liberty National Division also made a promise — to make tomorrow better in the communities where their employees live, work and serve. Whether that’s volunteering or being an advocate, Globe Life agencies and employees are dedicated to giving back. This spirit of generosity has helped make both our promises ring true.
In the fall of 2023, Globe Life Liberty National Division donated $58,840 and packed 600 activity bags for Cook Children’s Heart Center. This partnership hits close to home for Vice President Jeff Splawn and his family. Their son, Kingston, was treated at Cook Children’s for hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a rare congenital heart defect.
Kingston underwent his first heart surgery at 2 days old and then stayed in the cardiac intensive care unit for more than eight months. After that, he spent a lot of time in and out of Cook Children’s, but that didn’t stop him from growing into a fierce warrior with a big personality. In December 2022, Kingston was released from Cook Children’s on home hospice, and his family focused on creating the best memories possible with him. In March 2023, Kingston passed at the age of 3-1/2-years-old.
“Globe Life is a huge company, but very family oriented,” said Brittany Splawn, Jeff’s wife. “Kingston was diagnosed when I was 19 weeks pregnant and from that moment, all of Globe Life was in the fight with us. And, in the end, when Kingston passed, they were there.”
Despite their heartbreaking loss, the Splawn family works hard to continue Kingston’s legacy. Globe Life recognized this and created a donation drive that collected a record-breaking amount of $58,840 to help Cook Children’s families in similar situations.
“Both Globe Life and Cook Children’s helped our journey be less stressful,” said Brittany. “What we went through, you aren’t supposed to go through. Cook Children’s treated my son, educated us and held our hand through it all. Globe Life was also there every step of the way, supporting us and making us feel that we were not alone. We are so thankful that Globe Life is helping us keep Kingston’s memory alive.”
